SquareLoop Mobile Alert Network Wins CTIA's Emerging Technology Award for Messaging and Mobile Marketing
Award recognizes the best wireless product or service in the areas of consumer, enterprise and network technology
Company’s unique wireless location-based messaging platform shows flexibility for public safety, content delivery and mobile marketing
Reston , Va. , March 28, 2007 – The Cellular Telecommunications Industry Association (CTIA) announced SquareLoop as the winner of the Emerging Technology award in the category of Messaging and Mobile Marketing. The CTIA E-Tech Awards program is designed to give industry recognition and exposure to the best wireless products and services in the areas of Consumer, Enterprise and Network Technology.
Nearly 250 submissions in four categories: hardware, consumer applications, enterprise solutions and network infrastructure, were judged on innovation, functionality, vision, technological importance and implementation. Judges consisted of a panel of industry experts, analysts and reporters.
“We are honored that SquareLoop’s Mobile Alert Network's breakthrough capability to geographically target mobile marketing messages was recognized by the industry,” says Tom Stroup, SquareLoop’s CEO. “We believe that opt-in location-based messaging will provide an excellent platform for delivery of new content services such as traffic and weather information as well as advertiser supported content.”
“The E-Tech awards program continues to grow and showcase innovative products that extend wireless offerings to consumers and enterprises,” said Robert Mesirow, vice president and show director for CTIA WIRELESS. “On behalf of CTIA, we congratulate SquareLoop on their award and look forward to their continued innovation in the field of location-based messaging.”
SquareLoop is the only wireless location-based services company that does not track or centrally monitor the movements of subscribers to deliver geographically targeted messages, thus preserving subscriber privacy. Instead, it uses the intelligence of the wireless receiver to filter messages based not only on the device’s current or prior location, but also on factors such as velocity, direction of travel or time of day. Unlike many of the location-based services currently available from wireless carriers, SquareLoop’s technology (which was originally developed by The MITRE Corporation for military applications) can be adapted to work on any of the wireless transmission technologies currently used by network carriers and does not require any changes to the wireless network’s infrastructure.
Features developed for public safety such as sender defined alert-tones and descriptive text messaging have captured the attention of the mobile marketing industry for creating new infotainment advertisements. These features provide much more customization than traditional text messages and allow message senders to visually and audibly brand messages. For example, a service that provides traffic information to subscribers might deliver traffic alerts with the sound of a car horn honking. Messages can also include longer message text and banner ads to provide the capability for advertiser supported content.
“The capabilities of the Mobile Alert Network can help bring internet style free sites that are supported by advertisements to mobile devices. We can even see a case where subscribers will receive discounts on their mobile phone bills or free services such as turn-by-turn navigation in exchange for receiving advertisements,” explains Joe Walsh, chief operating officer of SquareLoop.
SquareLoop will be launching a beta version of a traffic alerting service by mid-year. The service will alert subscribers to traffic accidents in their vicinity. A text-to-speech conversion of the message will be available to read the message to subscribers who are driving.
About SquareLoop Inc.
SquareLoop (http://www.squareloop.com) is a northern Virginia based company that is commercializing its unique wireless location-based services technology for public safety, content delivery and mobile marketing applications. SquareLoop's technology platform provides the only model for location-specific and time-specific delivery of messages to mobile phones and devices that does not rely on location tracking or central monitoring of a subscriber’s movements, thus preserving the user’s location privacy. This contrasts with the LBS methods and related applications currently in use on wireless networks that rely on "continuous tracking" of targeted individuals to determine location. Managed by industry veterans, the company plans to partner with content providers and information sources to enhance the value and relevancy of information.
